Just south of Carmel there are many options for viewing the Big Sur coast. My favorite one is at Garrapata State Park. Its coastal trails are easy to access, easy to hike and have great views of the coast. You can also get to the beach where you can see some interesting rock formations in the bluffs.

Nestled just south of the quaint town of Carmel lies a stretch of California’s most iconic coastline – Big Sur. While this region is dotted with numerous vantage points and scenic spots, Garrapata State Park stands out as a personal favorite.

Why Garrapata State Park is a Must-Visit

  1. Easy Accessibility: Unlike some of the more secluded spots in Big Sur, the trails at Garrapata are readily accessible. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just someone looking to take in the views, this park welcomes all.

  2. Scenic Coastal Trails: Not only are these trails easy to hike, but they also offer breathtaking panoramas of the rugged coastline. Each step you take is accompanied by the soothing sound of waves crashing below and the cool sea breeze against your face.

  3. The Mesmerizing Beach: Garrapata State Park isn’t just about the trails. Descend to its pristine beach, and you’re in for a treat. The sandy expanse is punctuated by intriguing rock formations rising from the bluffs, making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts or anyone looking to enjoy a tranquil moment by the Pacific.

If you’re planning a trip to the Big Sur coast, ensure that Garrapata State Park is on your itinerary. Whether it’s the easy hiking paths, the unparalleled coastal views, or the captivating beachfront, this park promises an unforgettable experience.
